Disappointing start to 2019

Mixed Fortunes for Div 2

Div 2 travelled to Gumeracha for its first clash of the season with a hospitable home team in near-ideal bowling conditions.

Con Harmer’s rink had an early battle but edged in front to be 9-6 at the eighth end. They maintained the lead ‘til the twenty-fourth when their opposition scored 2 to lead 22-21. Con’s rink ‘returned the favour’ when it really mattered to come out on top 23-22. Phew!

At their eighth end Graham Evans’ rink was just behind their opposition, 7 shots to 8. Losing the next six ends they then rallied to win seven of the remaining eleven.  It could have gone either way, but Gumeracha won the day 24-19.

Dropping a nerve-jangling six on the very first end, Bill Robertson’s rink regained some composure scoring 12 to Gumeracha’s 17 by the fourteenth.  However, the opposition led by a rampant Tony Mik conceded only three of the remaining ends to come out comfortable winners 40-19.

With the Harmer rink contribution, Hahndorf is now placed sixth on the premiership table.  Div 2 meets Woodside at Woodside next Saturday. (report submitted by Paul W and Bill R.)
